CPS ENERGY CREWS WORKING TO RESTORE POWER AFTER TWO STORMS PASS THROUGH CPS ENERGY SERVICE AREA

8 A.M. UPDATE

April 21, 2023, 8 a.m. (SAN ANTONIO) – CPS Energy crews are working to restore 327 outages impacting 10,257 customers this morning. The two severe storms that moved through the CPS Energy service area last night caused damages throughout the community. At peak yesterday, there were more than 45,000 customers impacted.

The first storm entered the CPS Energy service area at around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Between then and 9 p.m., about 4,700 lightning strikes were recorded. The second storm entered around 10:30 p.m. and between then at 2 a.m. this morning, there were 3,400 lightning strikes recorded. There were more than 8,000 lightning strikes recorded during these two storms.

Crews will work throughout today to restore outages. They will focus on the outages impacting the greatest number of customers first and then will work to restore smaller outages. There are currently 37 downed wires that crews are working to repair, bringing the total of downed wires during the storm to 71.

Please avoid downed power lines and report them to CPS Energy at 210-353-4357 (HELP). Do NOT attempt to move or drive over the lines. Treat all wires as if they are live. Power lines may still have electricity running through them even in an outage. As a reminder, please Move Over Slow Down as you see crews working on the side of the road for both driver and crew safety.
