TEXAN BY NATURE HONORS CPS ENERGY FOR EXCELLENCE IN CONSERVATION

CPS Energy is the only utility among 2,000 businesses in the state to receive the award.

November 15, 2023 (San Antonio) — Texan by Nature has named CPS Energy as a 2023 Texan by Nature 20 (TxN 20) honoree for the utility’s commitment to elevating conservation as a business practice. 

“CPS Energy is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and transitioning to cleaner energy for climate resiliency while maintaining reliability and affordability for our customers,” said CPS Energy President & CEO Rudy D. Garza. “We are proud and honored to be recognized by Texan by Nature for our strategic efforts in putting our vision into action to amplify conservation efforts in our growing San Antonio community.”

The TxN 20 distinction highlights the best conservation work in Texas. The organization reviewed the work of more than 2,000 companies and awarded 20 businesses with this honor.

CPS Energy is committed to sustainability.  The utility has committed to supporting the City of San Antonio’s Climate Action Adaptation Plan (CAAP), which aims to accomplish net-zero carbon emissions by 2050; the approval of their Power Generation Resource Plan, which eliminates the use of coal and secure additional power generation to serve the community; CPS Energy’s efforts to make San Antonio the fifth largest city in the country for solar generation, and first in Texas. CPS Energy was also commended for its extensive collaboration with community conservation including Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Green Spaces Alliance, and the Hemisfair Conservancy.

“CPS Energy has been unwavering in its commitment to accelerate the transition to cleaner energy to reach its carbon neutrality target by 2050,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “As a municipally owned utility, I am proud of CPS Energy for continuing to maximize value for our customers through energy conservation, demand management, and resource diversification.”

CPS Energy’s strategic plan, Vision 2027, includes delivering energy sustainably. CPS Energy will continue to work to reduce emissions and seek new technologies to transform how the utility powers its community.
