CPS ENERGY CREWS EN ROUTE TO LAKELAND, FLORIDA TO HELP RESTORE POWER FOR CUSTOMERS IMPACTED BY HURRICANE IAN

Crews leaving Jacksonville to assist more damaged area

September 30, 2022 (SAN ANTONIO) – CPS Energy crews are leaving Jacksonville, Florida and making the 3.5-hour drive to Lakeland, Florida to support around 26,000 customers who are without power. Crews will be assisting Lakeland’s utility, Lakeland Electric, in restoration efforts. Nearly one-fifth of Lakeland’s 133,517 electric customers were experiencing an outage as of 8:30 a.m. today.

The CPS Energy storm restoration team includes 35 members with three overhead teams, consisting of six crew members per group, a pole setting crew and 5 members of the fleet and safety team. They are traveling in 17 vehicles comprised of 6 bucket trucks, 3 pole setting trucks and other support equipment.

On September 28, CPS energy crews departed San Antonio in route to Jacksonville to answer a call for mutual assistance from Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA). Crews have pivoted to help an area greatly impacted by Hurricane Ian, which made landfall Wednesday afternoon as a powerful Category 4 storm.
