CPS ENERGY RECEIVES FIRST COMMERCIAL RETROFIT CERTIFICATION FROM BUILD SAN ANTONIO GREEN

May 10, 2023 (SAN ANTONIO) – CPS Energy’s headquarters has been recognized with the first-ever Build San Antonio Green (BSAG) commercial retrofit certification. The CPS Energy headquarters building is the first BSAG Commercial Retrofit over 200,000 square feet and the first major renovation of two existing buildings. This certification, known as a level 2, signifies CPS Energy’s headquarters being ten percent or over projected energy savings over code. The current CPS Energy Headquarters is 60 percent more energy efficient than the previous headquarters building.

“We are honored to be the first recipient of the Build San Antonio Green Commercial Retrofit Certification,” said Rudy D. Garza, President & CEO of CPS Energy. “CPS Energy is leading the way in sustainability initiatives and aspires to lead by example in the San Antonio community. I am very proud of our CPS Energy team who worked to design and construct an innovative, industry-leading building and thankful for the efforts of our entire organization to work as One Team in achieving our Vision 2027 goals.”

The CPS Energy headquarters utilizes high performing window systems that reduce heat coming into the building to help save energy, energy and water efficient systems and equipment, employee EV-charging parking spaces, high efficiency HVAC systems with high performing air filtration and low-impact development landscaping and rain catchment systems to name a few efficiencies.

“This building is a brick and mortar commitment towards a more resilient, efficient adaptive, and affordable future for all of San Antonio,” said Anita Ledbetter, Executive Director of Build SA Green. “I want to thank all of the teams who have worked for many years to make this project a reality. This building paved the way for our commercial program and we are thankful to CPS Energy for their partnership.”

BSAG is a non-profit founded in 2001 by the City of San Antonio, Bexar County and CPS Energy to reduce emissions and save energy and has certified over 40 million square feet of affordable green buildings within the San Antonio community.  The organization has worked with their partners for over 20 years to fulfill their mission of protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the San Antonio community.
