Media tours CPS Energy’s smart meter testing lab

CPS Energy’s smart meter testing lab was a hit with local media.

With the first smart meters to be installed beginning Aug. 18 as part of a four-year rollout, we wanted to share our rigorous testing process with the public. The meters are part of our $290 million Smart Grid Initiative, which will upgrade our electrical grid to enable two-way communication between customers and CPS Energy.

The smart grid will improve reliability, allow us to remotely see outages — meaning we can fix them more quickly — and allow customers to see their energy use online up through the previous day, giving them greater control over the power they buy.
