Smart grid canopy installation underway

Installation of the network canopy necessary to enable a smart grid for CPS Energy and its customers is going smoothly, say those in the field.

The canopy devices, which are being installed on CPS Energy poles, towers and substations will allow CPS Energy to receive energy use information from automated digital meters — aka smart meters.

Once completed, the updated grid will boost electric and gas reliability, give customers more control over their energy use, increase efficiency and customer privacy, reduce costs and better integrate renewables, which has a positive effect on the environment.
