San Antonio, Texas – (January 14, 2021) – Today, the San Antonio City Council unanimously voted to reappoint Mr. John Steen for a second term on the CPS Energy Board of Trustees. While he, like each Trustee, is dedicated to serving all CPS Energy customers, he regionally represents the Northeast Quadrant of the energy company’s service territory. In January 2018, Mr. Steen began serving as the Board’s Chair, a position that periodically rotates among Board members. He is an attorney who previously served as the 108th Texas Secretary of State and as a commissioner of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“I’m pleased and honored that our City Council has confirmed my reappointment to the CPS Energy Board of Trustees,” said Mr. John Steen. “My pledge is that I’ll continue to work diligently to be an exemplary Board member and to merit the confidence and trust placed in me. Serving on the Board is a civic responsibility that I don’t take lightly. I want to make sure that we continue to meet the energy needs of our community in an economical, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. Our overarching goal is to endeavor to be no less than the best utility in the nation — public or private.”
The CPS Energy Board of Trustees govern our community’s electric and natural gas utility. Board members may serve up to two five-year terms. The Mayor of San Antonio serves as an ex-officio member. Other Board members include Vice-Chair Dr. Willis Mackey, Southeast Quadrant 3; Ms. Janie Gonzalez, Southwest Quadrant 4; and Mr. Edward Kelley, Northwest Quadrant 1.
The CPS Energy Board of Trustees typically meets on the last Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Currently, due to COVID-19, the meetings are conducted by telephone. Conveniently, listeners can dial into the meeting from any phone or go online. The meetings are also archived on the company’s website.
The community can also participate in the Public Comment portion of Board meetings. All meetings require pre-registration to speak. Those who are interested in commenting on agenda items need to call (210) 353-4662 the morning of each meeting day.
