Hittin’ the road in a cleaner, greener fleet
By Pam Maris on April 23, 2018
When it comes to investing in a cleaner, greener fleet, CPS Energy is king of the road.
Today, the utility announced the purchase of its newest fleet additions – 34 XLP plug-in hybrid electric Ford F-150 trucks. It was the largest purchase in terms of quantity of any utility or private company, and CPS Energy is the first in Texas to use the hybrid electric F-150. Click here to read the News Release. The new trucks will replace less efficient vehicles in the utility’s fleet — a great example of how CPS Energy is driven to do what’s right for the community and the environment and for future generations.
“Through our latest hybrid-electric vehicle investments, we’ll leverage new technology that has been economically designed to help protect our environment,” said Paula Gold-Williams, CPS Energy’s President & CEO.
The new trucks offer more than 50 percent better fuel economy and a comparable reduction in emissions compared to similar vehicles, helping CPS Energy reduce its overall carbon footprint.
Before the purchase of the new hybrid electric vehicles, the utility had already set the wheels in motion for a greener fleet with investments in flex-fuel, compressed natural gas and propane and electric vehicles. Now, 14 percent of its entire fleet is alternative fueled vehicles.
Here is a breakdown of its green, clean fleet:
In 2017, we ranked 25th among the nation’s 100 Best Fleets in the Americas. The 100 Best Fleets program recognizes top performers and performance improvement in the fleet industry.
This month, CPS Energy was recognized as being a good environmental steward by Market Strategies International, which designated the utility as an Environmental Champion for the 2nd year in a row.
Along with a cleaner fleet of vehicles, the utility also invests in environmentally friendly power generation sources. CPS Energy leads in solar generation, #1 in Texas and #6 in the nation, and is one of the largest wind buyers in the nation.
