Unplugged: Giving the gift of life

At 20 years old, Lalie Gomez’s daughter, Yvette, was young, athletic and a newlywed when she was killed in a motorcycle accident.  Nearly 13 years later, Gomez says losing her daughter was devastating, but deciding to donate her daughter’s organs helped her deal with her loss.

Gomez has been a CPS Energy employee for 25 years. Since her daughter’s death, she also made the decision to donate her mother’s eye tissue after she was killed in a car accident.

April is National Donate Life Month. Gomez says anyone can donate regardless of their age, race or medical history. Your decision to donate could give new life to the 124,000 men, women and children in the United States who are awaiting an organ and tissue donation.
