CPS Energy invites low-income customers to save $450 on energy
Casa Verde Weatherization Program to hold programs fair this Saturday
The recent cold snap is a signal Old Man Winter is sticking around a bit longer. CPS Energy’s Casa Verde program can help customers with homes lacking insulation.
This Saturday, Feb. 28, CPS Energy is holding a community programs fair at Walter Krueger Middle School, 438 Lanark Dr. Customers can apply onsite from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and be immediately scheduled for a house evaluation.
Casa Verde saves the average customer $350 annually. Homes become more energy efficient after receiving $5,000 of free insulation and other improvements to seal gaps and stop air from leaking in or out of the home.
“As we saw in January, erratic weather can cause huge swings in bills. Long-term forecasts indicate cold snaps will continue into March. Without good insulation and weather stripping, it’s costly to try to keep your home warm,” said Vice President of Community Engagement Maria Garcia. “We encourage those who qualify to apply for Casa Verde and not try risky heating methods.”
Casa Verde has provided free home weatherization to more than 10,000 families, resulting in an estimated total bill savings of $5.7 million. Customers also have saved 11 megawatts of energy for our community, which is enough to power 2,000 homes.
Employees will also help customers determine if they’re eligible for an additional $100 in annual savings with affordability discounts and assist seniors in applying for the new Residential Senior Citizen Late Payment Waiver.
Customers must bring the following information to apply for the programs:
- Copy of valid photo I.D. for applicant
- Proof of current income for all members living in home, ages 18 or older, or verification of unemployment
- Recent CPS Energy bill or account number
The event also will include giveaways, safety tips and registration for community services from the following companies:
- Gonzaba Medical Group
- WellMed
- Community First
- CentroMed
- SAWS
