Kids can ‘Power Up’ their STEM knowledge at The DoSeum

Looking for a cool idea for your kids this holiday break? Take them to The DoSeum and check out our Power Up exhibit.

We teamed up with our New Energy Economy partner OCI Solar Power to create an exhibit with an interactive learning experience about solar power and energy conservation.

Nine-year-old Solana Rivera had fun checking out the exhibit with her family during a recent visit.

“It was very interesting,” said Solana. “I liked learning how the sun powers the buildings of the DoSeum.”

Along with providing our community with 450 megawatts of solar power, OCI Solar Power is helping us empower kids with knowledge about Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM).

“OCI Solar Power put 616 solar panels on the roof of the museum, which powers about 15 percent of the DoSeum’s needs on a day-to-day basis,” said Nicole Howard, communications specialist at OCI Solar Power. “We really wanted to get involved with the DoSeum because we thought it was a good way to give back to the community. Children all around the world that are visiting San Antonio can come and learn not only about our company and our work with CPS Energy, but they can learn about solar power.”

The exhibit showcases how we produce and deliver electricity to customers. It also teaches kids how they can help parents conserve energy and save money at home.

“The Power Up exhibit is really incredible because kids think and explore, and figure out how energy works and what actually has to happen when you turn on the light switch on the wall,” said Doseum Marketing Director Cristina Noriega. “One of my favorite parts of that exhibit is there’s an interactive touch screen where kids can figure out how to turn off the energy wasters. It teaches them that (electricity) is a precious resource that we need to conserve.”
